Spirit Food – October 2019
This month, let’s focus on the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NRSV) – “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.”
When we spoke the words accepting Jesus as the Lord of our life, the Holy Spirit (of the Trinity), which had died in mankind at the time Adam sinned in the garden of Eden, came to live on the inside of us, and our spirit was reborn. At that time, we received salvation and all it is defined as. We were made to be in right standing with our Creator again, became part of the body of Christ, and a joint-heir with Jesus, as we are part of His body! This enabled us to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and His power to function on this earth.
In the book of Acts chapter 2, the Bible informs us about the coming of the Holy Spirit upon believers. This was after Jesus had ascended into Heaven. As you read Acts 2, don’t allow the word Pentecost to concern you as the word itself simply means 50 (pente=five, like the pentagon, a five-sided building; and cost=times 10). Pentecost was the 50 day after Easter commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the feast of the harvest Exodus 23:16).
Believers today have the ability to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, enabling them to function in the same way that Jesus did when He walked on this earth as 100% man and 100% God. Remember, Jesus had untainted blood, therefore, at His immersion baptism, the Holy Spirit came to reside in Him prior to His earthly ministry. The baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers believers to do even greater things than Jesus did according to John 14:12-14:
12 Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father.
13 I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
The baptism of the Holy Spirit enables the power of God to flow through the believer, enabling the believer to produce this fruit of the Spirit. Producing this fruit is not accomplished by our own efforts; it is the result of our Heavenly Father’s love, grace, and mercy flowing through the believer. Remember, John 15:5 says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. Those who abide in me and I in them bear much fruit, because apart from me you can do nothing.”
Receiving Our Heavenly Prayer Language
First of all, allow me to clarify to you that when you accepted Jesus as the Lord of your life, your spirit, which was dead because of Adam’s sin in the Garden of Eden, was reborn, and the Holy Spirit came to live within your mortal body. Therefore, your salvation and all it includes, is secure in Christ Jesus.
That being said, the New Covenant applies in your life. (Hebrews 8:10-12) Therefore, because of the finished work of Jesus on the cross, we are enabled to walk out our faith, knowing we are in Christ (part of His body), as we deepen our relationship with Him.
Jesus said in John 14:16-17 “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. 17 This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you.
Then in Acts 2:32-33 it says, “This Jesus God raised up, and of that all of us are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you both see and hear.
God gave the give of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, and this gift has been available ever since. A believer just needs to be informed about its availability, enabling them to believe what the Word has to say about it, and then receive it by faith!
Peter 2:38 says, “Peter said to them, “Repent, (which means to have a change of mind) and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
So, your sins have all been forgiven according to the New Covenant (you have salvation), now you just need to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit regarding your heavenly prayer language. People somehow get the idea that they must do something to receive this gift of the Holy Spirit and their heavenly prayer language. You can’t do anything for a gift. It ceases to be a gift if you have to work for it.
As a believer, the Holy Spirit resides within you to teach, train, and guide you in your daily affairs in this life. As believers, we typically pray to our Heavenly Father with words we formulate in our minds and speak out of the abundance of our heart. Luke 6:45 says, “The good person out of the good treasure of the heart produces good, and the evil person out of evil treasure produces evil; for it is out of the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks.” When we pray prayers in a language our mind comprehends, we are limited, as we do not know all things. Because we do not know all things when we speak words out of the abundance of our heart praying in a language our mind comprehends, 1 John 3:20 it says, “whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything”, as He is omniscient! Psalm 139:4 says, “Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely.” He hears our prayers when we speak words of faith, and it pleases Him to answer and fulfill words spoken in faith. The way we speak words of faith is to pray according to His Word and His plan for our life. When we speak in faith, Psalm 103:20 applies, which says, “Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, obedient to his spoken word.”
Believers need to understand that when we pray in our native or a learned language, we are formulating the words out of the abundance of our heart, but also by the knowledge of our natural mind. Our Heavenly Prayer language is our reborn Spirit speaking directly to our Heavenly Father, and that our mind may be unfruitful, meaning, we don’t know exactly what our mouth is saying, but our redeemed Holy Spirit within us is speaking to our Heavenly Father who is Almighty God, Creator of the universe! 1 Corinthians 14:14 says, “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unproductive.” Also, when we pray in our natural or a learned language we understand, Satan also hears every word and has the ability to put his forces on assignment to delay good results. When we pray in our heavenly prayer language, he hasn’t got a clue of what is being spoken (coming out of your mouth), therefore, he does everything he knows of to discourage you from doing it. In John 4:23-24 it says, “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” Once the New Covenant came into effect, our Heavenly Father provided us with the possibility of receiving our heavenly prayer language.
Your will is involved in your receiving your heavenly prayer language. You receive it by proceeding in faith to open your mouth and start speaking. The Holy Spirit will act on your vocal cords, lips, and tongue, and will produce supernatural words from your reborn Spirit through you, out of your mouth. The Holy Spirit gives the utterance, but man does the speaking.
Acts 2:4 says, “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.” You do the talking; the Holy Spirit gives you the utterance. The Holy Spirit does not speak in tongues. The Holy Spirit does not take hold of your tongue and do the talking for you. We do the speaking in tongues.
Nowhere in the New Testament does it state that the Holy Spirit speaks in tongues. Always, the individual does the speaking, but the Holy Spirit gives the utterance. Many believers think, “I’m afraid I’m going to receive in the flesh.” The reality is you can’t receive your Heavenly Prayer language any other way, because you are using your vocal cords (part of your flesh), to produce the supernatural words! Speaking in tongues is men and women in the flesh worshipping our Heavenly Father in the Spirit! God proclaimed in Joel 2:28, “Then afterward I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.” Joel was prophesying about after Jesus went to cross and the New Covenant was in place. Besides, remember, fear is perverted faith.
Luke 11:11-13 says:
11 Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for a fish, will give a snake instead of a fish?
12 Or if the child asks for an egg, will give a scorpion?
13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
I encourage to say “Heavenly Father, I’m asking to receive my heavenly prayer language, and I am receiving it right now by faith.” I encourage you to relax and fearlessly, boldly, lift their voice and make those supernatural sounds that want to come, working your tongue and lips as you would if you were speaking in your native language.
The Holy Spirit gives the utterance; the person must do the talking. John 16:13 says, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” The supernatural part is what is being said; it is not who is talking. Continue speaking, praising our Heavenly Father with these supernatural words until a free, clear language comes and they have an inner assurance that they have received.
Ephesians 5:18-20 says;
18 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,
19 as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts,
20 giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Speaking in tongues is a sign that you have been filled with the Holy Spirit.
Tongues is for spiritual edification. 1 Corinthians 14:2 says, “For those who speak in a tongue do not speak to other people but to God; for nobody understands them, since they are speaking mysteries in the Spirit.” Then in 14:4 it says, “Those who speak in a tongue build up themselves, but those who prophesy build up the church.”
Tongues reminds us of the Spirit’s indwelling presence. Speaking in our heavenly prayer language is a supernatural evidence of the Holy Spirit’s indwelling.
Praying in our heavenly prayer language is praying in line with our Heavenly Father’s perfect will.
Praying in our heavenly prayer language stimulates faith.
Praying in our heavenly prayer language is a means of keeping free from worldly contamination.
Praying in our heavenly prayer language enables us to pray for the unknown.
Praying in our heavenly prayer language gives spiritual refreshing.
By praying in our heavenly prayer language, you give thanks perfectly.
Speaking in tongues brings the tongue under subjection.
The Apostle Paul is saying here that our Heavenly Father has given the church a supernatural means of communication with Himself! Praise the Lord!

Heavenly Father, your Word says in Romans 10:9-10- “that if I confess with my mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in my heart that and believe in my heart that You raised Him from the dead, that I would be saved. For with the heart one believes unto salvation.” I believe your Word Heavenly Father and confess Jesus Christ (the anointed one and His anointing) as Lord of my life now. I believe that You raised Him from the dead. I confess that I was a sinner, but now I’ve been saved by Your grace, and in Your thoughts, I am now in right standing with You. I denounce Satan and all he stands for. Write my name in the Lamb’s book of Life. In Jesus Name. Amen (so be it).
